I’m bored right now sitting in the student lounge on level four waiting for my uni friends to join me. So for a change, and to fill in the time, I’m writing this on paper, so I can type it up later - scary considering I can’t read my own writing half the time. But we’ll see how it goes…
Last night I had an in depth discussion with Matt Kennedy about a lot of things, but what could broadly be described as “politics”. The fact is, politics are all around us in everything we do. Sometimes you don’t even notice it, but it’s always there. Nothing is more true than in the workplace. It’s a hard thing to describe but I suppose it’s a complex mix of emotions, power, private agendas and an overpowering sense of rules and regulations, forms and procedures. The Vogons off Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy spring to mind. I suppose it’s just one of life’s little mysteries that we all have to live with - one that is frustrating, and at the same time entertaining (when used in such a fashion!).
Anyway, the group is here now so I’ll have to continue this later…
Flinders Street Station at night, it’s an iconic Melbourne sight. I guess that’s a good thing since I now have 17 minutes to wait for the next train. I’ll blame the tram that didn’t get me here from Bourke Street fast enough for the 7.55 which just happened to be on time! I actually watched it leave as I was sprinting down the esculator - don’t you hate that?
The group meeting tonight was pretty boring. Nothing much to discuss but we did have interviews with our supervisor which was an opportunity to vent about a particular person’s work ethic. Ah marking by consensus - it’s so democratic, and so typical RMIT lazy lecturer style.
And what do you know. The train is here. There’s something wrong with the air conditioning in the front carriage though, I can hear it from my seat. This had better not be a “defective” train or I ain’t gonna be happy! Oh and it’s just in time for another one of my pet hates: the “Welcome to Connex” announcement that always has the front part of welcome cut off. I’ve never seen an elk on a train, but maybe that’s just me. :)
I’ve been reading my copy of mX while I ponder what to write next. 33 people were killed at Virginia Tech last night (our time). It’s said to be the worst shooting in modern US history… When will the Americans learn that guns are bad? It seems to happen all too frequently over there - maybe they’re just getting what’s coming to them. You see, it would never work at RMIT, the lunatic would spend so long waiting for the lifts on level two that they’d give up in frustration! Well my uni mates thought it was funny anyway.
Hmm what else is there… Ah yes, this is especially relevant after my post yesterday: “Big Brother goes online.”
Big Brother maker Endemol is to launch a virtual world for reality shows.
Sounds like me already doesn’t it?
Virtual Me allows users of three dimensional worlds such as Second Life to have their web selves compete in online versions of Deal or No Deal, Fame Academy and Big Brother.
Looks like it has the cult following potential. We’ll have to wait and see on that one. It’s set to be released “in the coming months” so who knows how long that will be. I’m happy with the TV show for now.
Well I’m at Middle Brighton Station now and I’m contemplating having to type up the two and half pages I’ve written so far. I don’t even know if it’s going to make sense, but hopefully it was more entertaining that my usual ramblings. :)

We had a similar kind of conversation at work yesterday after our Dynamics exam re: why Americans shoot each other. Very interesting but ultimately led nowhere!
