Well it’s been a pretty hellish couple of weeks. I’ve been working way too hard, on what would seem like five or so “this is top priority” tasks. Yeah, go figure that one!
Anyway, it’s been little while since my last update… Last Tuesday saw my uni semester swing into gear. Getting from Keysborough to home for a quick meal, then to Sandringham and Connex-ing to the city all in the space of 90 minutes is quite a challenge. But it was made easier by leaving work early - thank you time in lieu! I really wasn’t sure what to expect from the class, the course guide is very vague at best, simply saying that the course is designed to draw on all the material covered throughout the entire degree. And that’s a lot of material!
It was good to see a lot of familiar faces, and I was in a group in no time. We had seven projects to select preferences from. We chose the three we thought we could best match with our diverse group skills. It turns out that we got our first preference - The Smith Family. They need a relatively simple database system to manage volunteers within their organisation. It’s an interesting project, but I wont know more until we meet with the client sometime in the next week. Pity they’re in Collingwood, which isn’t exactly local for me!
I’ve been assigned the Developer role in the group which I’m happy about. I can code better then I can written English that’s for shore. :) In fact, having such a diverse team has meant that all the roles are filled by someone who’s either majored in that area or knows a lot about the subject matter. Time will tell how the project progresses, but we’re supported by Microsoft and they’re donating any equipment, hardware or software, to The Smith Family that we deem necessary for our system. We have to meet weekly with our MS Supervisor so it’s a good opportunity to meet people in the industry.
I feel like I’m balancing two jobs all of a sudden. As if I needed to increase my workload! But all in all, it should be a lot of fun.
