It’s going to be a loooong week

Back from my weekend escape, it’s only Monday and I’m already exhausted. There is so much to get done at work that I can’t even begin to work out where to start. In fact, there are so many time-critical tasks that normal support jobs are just having to wait. Although I dare say, everyone is certainly doing their bit to try to get the job done. I am tiring of the hours though. On average I’ve been working 1-1.5 hours extra every day just to keep up the slack. Anyway, I’m tired, so that’s all from me today.

Month: 2

Port

I haven’t posted a whole lot lately, and that’s because there really hasn’t been a whole lot happening. Except work, and it pretty much takes up all my time at the moment.

But there is a few hours on the weekend that’s mine - even though servers go down and Dean tries to get hold of me to fix them! Lucky I didn’t have my phone with me that day. :) Last weekend (and the one before that for that matter) I reinstated the Sunday breakfast. It’s almost as ritualistic as the monthly dinner, just not as big. This week I caught up with Penelope, Al, Richie and Stu. It was good, even if it was quite hot outside. We even had time to get down to the beach for a little while in the afternoon.

Hoping to get to Bright in the next few weeks. I need a holiday already!! Can you believe we’re one week into February already? I guess as you get older, it just keeps going faster.

iPhone round 2

It’s the weekend already, not that it’s been a short week, it just seemed to go quite fast. It’s only just dawning on me that I’m back working full time after 3 years and it’s only the first week back. But with that said, the first week is also over and it’s been quite busy. Of course, I’d tell you what I’ve been up to, but then I’d have to kill you, or is that they’d have to kill me? I can’t remember. :)

iPhone

Anywho, it seems my post yesterday about the iPhone rattled a few feathers and believe it or not, there are a still a few people who want to argue points with me. I feel there’s no better way to settle points than another bout of counter points so strap yourself in and read on…

The Extended List

I’m not going into any in depth analysis here, just the facts. You can make up your own mind…

  • iPhone is locked to the network
  • It can’t be unlocked
  • No voice dialling, voice commands or memos
  • It might claim to be OS X, but it wont run OS X apps
  • You can’t add programs to it
  • It wont connect to iChat
  • No 3G capability
  • It doesn’t have any games
  • It isn’t ambidextrous
  • It doesn’t have GPS
  • The web browser doesn’t support Flash OR Java!
  • The battery is not user servicable - I know I said no analysis but the is just comical. Didn’t Apple learn anything from the iPod?
  • It can’t open documents (like Word or Excel)
  • The camera doesn’t do video
  • No VoIP support
  • No iTunes store integration
  • Gestures make one handed operation difficult

Okay, I think that’s enough.

Back to Work

Red Tiles

It was back to work today after a relatively short, but much needed, holiday. It was a pretty quiet day, with only a handful of people at work preparing for the onslaught on Monday when everyone is back. Andrew and I were the lucky ones from IT to go back early and we spent most of the morning patching network cabinets. By lunchtime it was getting quiet, and hot, so we stayed in the air conditioning. That is, until we discovered our latest gadgets! But I’ll blog about those later. :) I think it’s going to take a little while to get back into the full time routine.

Almost a month

Okay so it’s almost been a month since my last post which is quite a dry spell. Quite frankly there’s been so much happening I’ve been too tired to bother posting anything. So rather than try to catch up on everything, I’ll just do a quick recap and then get on with it…

  • Work
  • Played poker with Chris and Mel for the first time (Mel won!)
  • Caught up with Stu C at the river
  • Went up to Bright with Richard and Jan
  • Dealt with Commonwealth Games traffic restrictions
  • Actually went to uni during the Commonwealth Games (albeit only twice)
  • Got my full licence (finally!)
  • Kept playing Travian
  • Rehearsals for Romeo & Juliet
  • Designed a website or two
  • AFL came back
  • And other crap I can’t think of right now…

So there you have it. Maybe I’ll start posting properly again now.
